Exchange Trip to France - Our progress so far

Hi everyone! Just thought we would use the school website to update everyone on the progress of the French exchange group so far …..

We arrived in Aberdeen on Sunday morning happy, excited and ready to start our trip! We got off the ferry and headed to the bus station – just as the heavens opened and everyone got soaked! But we didn’t let it dampen our spirits and after checking into the hostel, we headed to the beach for the cinema, ice skating, and some fun at Cadona’s. After a long day we headed back to the hostel, got some dinner and had a quiz night, before heading off to bed. On Monday we got up and waited for the 7.30 airport bus – that’s when things got interesting!......

After getting through the long check-in queue and through security our flight was a bit delayed, but not to worry - we got on the plane, took off and everything was going well until the captain came over the tannoy to tell us we were diverting to Edinburgh because of a technical problem with pressurising the cabin – we had thought that our ears had been popping a lot! After a couple of hours in the capital we got back onto the plane to be told that we were now going to have to head to Newcastle, which we did, changed flight crew before heading onto Gatwick – where we are now, and so our tour of the Eastern flank of the UK was complete!

So we missed the flight to Bordeaux by about 4 hours but the nice people at British Airways have put us up for the night in a posh hotel and paid for our dinner to say sorry. Which was a treat well deserved by the 12 pupils who have not moaned or complained all day!

We’re now booked onto the Bordeaux flight at 6am tomorrow, so an early bed for everyone. I wonder what cities we might stop off at tomorrow?!!!!

In the meantime, check out the pictures in the image gallery!

Will update again soon, Mr McLeman

You know how we wondered what other cities we may stop off at...

The saga of our travel to Angoulème continued on Tuesday......!

The day started well by making it to Gatwick airport in plenty time for our 6am flight to Bordeaux. The flight even left early and as we neared our destination we were pretty confident we would arrive as planned. Therefore we couldn't quite believe it when the pilot had to abandon the landing and then have air traffic control divert us to Toulouse because of the weather! The comment on the last post was meant to be a joke, but as it turns out Toulouse became the third European city we have visited this week that we had not planned to! The saga took another twist as we couldn't disembark the plane becuse the terminal building had been evacuated because of a bomb scare! Is someone somewhere trying to tell us something!

Anyway, following a series of phonecalls all was resolved - the airline transferred us to Bordeaux by bus where we were met by the school and taken to our destination - St Marthe College, Angoulème. On arrival we were fed and watered and taken on a tour of the school before the pupils met their penpals for the first time. Some pupils even got to squeeze in a lesson in Greek before heading off home to meet the rest of their family.

There are an updated set of photos added to the France Exchange Image Gallery.

We will update this again soon, Mr McLeman
